Pall’s Next Generation Technology Optimizes Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors Manufacturing
Today’s new MLCC designs are smaller in size requiring even thinner dielectric layers of less than 0.1 micron thick. Barium titanate (BT) is the standard ceramic green sheet casting material used in manufacturing MLCC. Both the production process for making BT from barium carbonate and titanium dioxide, as well as the agglomeration of the BT slurry itself can introduce damaging particles, voids, and gel-like deformable contaminants that prove detrimental to achieving thin and uniform green sheet. Superior filtration technology is necessary to remove harmful impurities and optimize the MLCC manufacturing process.
Pall's Profile® Star filters and Poly-Fine® XLD filters, unique hybrids of pleated and depth filter construction, are essential for thin layer and high viscosity applications, such as ceramic green sheet casting, where the high differential pressures cannot be addressed by traditional depth filters.
For submicron filtration of the most advanced, thinnest layer green sheet in development, the Ultipor® GF-HV glass microfiber filter is available in removal ratings as fine as 0.1 micron. The Ultipor GF-HV filter is well suited for slurry filtration applications having high viscosities and substantial solid concentrations.
Pall's Ultipor GF medium is a resin-bonded microfiber matrix designed for fine filtration, low pressure loss and long service life. This structure resists contaminant unloading or media migration. The unique HV version of the Ultipor GF filter family is specifically constructed for high-viscosity applications where standard media may not be suitable. The combination of a rigid support mesh and a highly porous medium structure provides exceptional flow characteristics, even at very fine sub-micron removal ratings and with high viscosity fluids.
