Pall Solvent Purification – Spontaneous Ion Removal

Pall Solvent Purifiers eliminate the possibility of deleterious particulate contamination, gel like particles, microbubble formations, and metallic contamination on the battery surface. Pall focuses on having high wettability membranes that do not impede air displacement resulting in less microbubble formation and shorter purge times.

 

Traditional filters have ion exchange beds covalently bonded directly to the surface; Pall’s cutting edge purifier technology provides spontaneous and immediate metal removal from various base solvents and resin solvent mixtures. The system is highly efficient because it does not rely on slow diffusion into a resin bead to achieve ionic adsorption. Due to the intimate contact of the solvent or water with the densely packed ion exchange groups on the membrane, rapid kinetics occur with immediate and spontaneous removal of the trace contaminants.

 

In order to effectively remove gels and metallic ions and also prevent gels from extruding through the purifier membrane onto battery surfaces, Pall has maximized the solvent purifier’s membrane surface area. The advanced purifier membrane design utilizes large surface areas leading to low differential pressures, which maximize metallic ion removal efficiency and minimize microbubble formation. Membranes are fully compatible with the typical organic and mixtures of organic solvents, are extremely clean with respect to extractables and, above all, offer excellent metallic ion removal.

Applications

 

The IonKleen SL purifier is recommended for solvent point-of-use purification and for use in purifying the precursor materials (solvents, resins and polymers) used in the manufacture of photoresists. The POU filter is an integral part of any photoresist manufacturing system, therefore careful selection of this filter is necessary to reduce defects on the battery surfaces. Metallic ion and gel removal, minimization of microbubble formation, reduced chemical consumption and good compatibility are all key areas for POU filter selection. It has also shown positive results in the purification of bulk and point-of-use IPA dispense.
