Ensure Process Gas Purity For LED Manufacturing With Robust Trace Moisture Detection
High-purity gases are used in the LED manufacturing process. Ammonia and hydrogen gases comprise the majority of the atmosphere in which the crystal layers are grown, and their purity is essential to the performance and quality of the LED device. If trace moisture is present in these gases then oxygen atoms can contaminate the crystalline structure of LED components. This contamination diminishes LED light output and deteriorates the current-voltage characteristics of the device. The resulting degradation reduces the performance and the commercial value of the LED.
The Gaskleen Pico1000 analyzer provides early warnings of purifier end-of-life and identification of unwanted moisture. It is ideal for certifying and qualifying ultrahigh purity gases in a compact mobile platform. It contains an inline analyzer utilizing a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) to gravimetrically measure the moisture concentration in select process gases. Leading edge MEMS technology allows for ppt level detection and the portable design enables use in many critical areas throughout a facility.
Process gases travel through a mass flow controller where a preconcentrator MEMS traps the moisture molecules using a proprietary coating. After the analyzing cycle is complete, the preconcentrator heats instantaneously to vaporize the compiled moisture. A resonator vibrating in the MHz frequency range works in conjunction with the preconcentrator. The vibrator utilizes a proprietary design and chemoselective coating to heighten desorption and absorption of the moisture from the preconcentrator. This allows the system to quickly capture and measure the mass of sample moisture with industry leading time to information.
